VERDICT The master of alternative history continues to find new ways to explore the many possible variants of American and world history. Meticulously researched, with realistic characters and careful attention to detail, the latest in the author's Atlantis series ("Opening Atlantis: The United States of Atlantis") should please Turtledove's many fans.
