五十多年前的一个冬天,大风将尘土和几个中学毕业生,卷到黄土高原的椿树峁。在这里,他们掏地,开荒,修梯田,办乡学,给娃娃们讲"古朝",借衣服给后生娶婆姨;他们学会了炒洋芋,做酸汤,爱上了喝烧酒,吃臊子面;他们在雨里读巴尔扎克,在窑洞中研讨物理假说......这些经历给他们饥饿、寒冷、迷茫的苦难岁月以慰藉和希望。乡民的善良真朴,打动了怀揣不同梦想的知识青年;知识青年也在对高原的敬畏中,理解了渺小与永存。作者运用了纯正地道的陕北方言,既显示了与那一方水土无法割舍的情感关联,也很好地再现了陕北地区的风情生活画卷。
